Relay for Life dedicated to me and my biopsy

Natalie Jensen is a friend who works at the American Cancer Society who is planning on walking in the Relay for Life in Dekalb county May 16-17.  She has graciously dedicated her participation in this event, in part, to me.  When I found out, I was floored…flattered, but floored.  Those of you who know me know that I have something of an issue with my self-esteem.  I just never thought of myself as someone to whom people would dedicate anything.  I am honored that Natalie has chosen to do this and I encourage you to consider clicking on the link to Natalie’s Relay for Life page here or on the right-hand side under links (it’s the top link).  Natalie, if you read this, thank you very much for this thoughtful gesture.

In other news, I am having my biopsy tomorrow to determine exactly what is growing on my pancreas.  The doctors have all given a presumptive diagnosis of pancreas cancer, but it’s possible that all 4 doctors who have looked at my MRI are wrong (of course, it’s also possible that I’ll win the Mega Millions lottery tonight)!  Here’s hoping either way!

Also, I am in the process of getting materials together to send to Dr. John Cameron for a second opinion.  While I do not doubt that there is something growing on my pancreas, Dr. Cameron might have a different opinion regarding my treatment and/or surgical options.  Everything I have read says that the pancreas center at Johns Hopkins is one of the best, and of the docs at Hopkins, Dr. Cameron is the go to person.  We’ll see how that goes.

Things are going well at the moment (‘cept the whole cancer thing).  At least I still have my sense of humor!

  1. Mr. H.
Glad to have a place where we can get information about you and your family. We heard about your news from Mr. Quinn and we were shocked. You have been and will continue to be in our nightly prayers. Annie has offered your name up in prayer to her 2nd grade class.

Please know that even though you don’t see us on a daily basis you and your family are in our prayers each and every night.

We wish you the best and we hope you will call on us if you ever need anything.

Stay strong and keep that humor!
The Martins: Melinda, Annie, Tom, and Frank

  2. Merle it is my pleasure to be able to do ANYTHING for you! :) I hope you and your family and friends will join us! If you need more details, anyone, please let me know! Fingers crossed for your biopsy…

  3. Merle, Natalie is a friend of mine as well. :) She has shared with me your story and the link to your blog. I wanted to reach out to you and introduce myself and this seemed as good of an opportunity as any. I am an ovarian cancer survivor and wanted to let you know that my thoughts and prayers are certainly with you at this uncertain time.

    Sincerely,
    Rhonda
